It’s been an eventful year for the Second Amendment and firearms law—and we’ve covered many of the major issues, cases, and controversies here on Second Thoughts.

The Supreme Court decided United States v. Rahimi in June, upholding a firearm regulation against Second Amendment challenge for the first time in the post-Heller era and shedding some light on how the current justices view the Bruen test.  In the wake of Rahimi, lower courts have been instructed to revisit Second Amendment cases with mixed results.  Additional petitions—including in a number of cases challenging state assault weapon and large capacity magazine bans—are filtering up to the Supreme Court and could be heard soon.  And the Court is set to hear argument in its first-ever case construing the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act in March.  We’ll have continuing coverage of these developments on the blog in the new year.
