This announcement was originally posted at the Firearms Research Center Blog.
This fall, the Firearms Research Center will host its annual conference, Sparking the Revolution: Flintlocks, Gunpowder, and Policy in America’s War for Independence, on November 20–21, 2025, at the Springfield National Armory Historic Site in Springfield, Massachusetts.
This year’s conference will explore the pivotal themes of the American Revolution and their ongoing relevance to modern debates surrounding history, law, and firearms policy. The two-day event will feature a blend of scholarly discussion and immersive experiences that bridge the past and present.
The conference opens Thursday afternoon with a reception and fireside chat, Exercising the Bruen Test: A Study in the Modern-Day Debate on the Second Amendment. Moderated by Ashley Hlebinsky, the session features FRC Director George Mocsary and University of Minnesota Adjunct Professor Megan Walsh examining Revolutionary-era topics through the lens of today’s constitutional debates.
Friday’s full-day will be hosted at Springfield Technical Community College, which shares a parking lot with the Armory and will include panels and presentations by leading historians, legal scholars, and museum professionals. You can read the entire line-up of speakers below.
The 2025 Fall Conference is open to the public and can be attended in person or virtually.
